onsemi outlined a long-term growth strategy targeting a $213 billion market opportunity by 2030, focusing on power density solutions tailored for automotive, industrial, and artificial intelligence data center applications, according to an Investing.com report. The announcement details how the semiconductor firm plans to capture expanding demand for energy-efficient power management components as global electrification accelerates.

"As AI, electrification and automation continue to scale, power density is emerging as one of the defining engineering challenges of this decade," said Hassane El-Khoury, President and CEO of onsemi, in a statement regarding the strategy.

Expanding Footprint in Electric Vehicles

As part of its broader automotive strategy, onsemi announced that Japanese automaker Subaru will evaluate the company's Embedded Power Platform for integration into future electric vehicles. This evaluation marks an operational step in securing design wins within next-generation automotive architectures, where thermal management and space constraints demand higher efficiency from power semiconductors.

The push into advanced electric vehicle platforms aligns with onsemi's broader positioning in silicon carbide and power management integrated circuits. These components are designed to reduce energy losses in high-voltage powertrains and fast-charging infrastructure, a critical requirement for automakers seeking to extend driving ranges and reduce battery pack sizes.

Power Challenges in AI Data Centers

Beyond automotive applications, the $213 billion addressable market encompasses surging power demands from AI data centers. Modern artificial intelligence accelerators require unprecedented electrical current delivered within tight physical dimensions, creating acute thermal management bottlenecks for data center operators.

onsemi's power density solutions aim to address these server-level constraints by improving conversion efficiency and reducing power dissipation. By shrinking the physical footprint required for voltage conversion, the company's hardware supports higher rack power densities demanded by hyperscale operators deploying next-generation AI clusters.

Strategic Implications for Semiconductor Manufacturers

The long-term target highlights a broader industry race among power semiconductor manufacturers to secure supply agreements in high-growth sectors. With automotive electrification and AI infrastructure commanding heavy capital expenditures, suppliers are increasingly packaging discrete components into integrated platforms to capture a larger share of each system's bill of materials.
