Evotec is utilizing its 'Horizon' transformation program to streamline operations and address investor skepticism regarding its business model. The company is attempting to recover from a significant year-to-date share price decline. Management presented these strategic adjustments at the Morgan Stanley 24th Annual Global Healthcare Conference, emphasizing a shift toward an 'asset-light' approach for its Just-Evotec Biologics unit.

"Horizon is a super important project for Evotec. We have said publicly that we expect to see EUR 75 million in savings with about 20% to 30% of that impact in 2026. So we are very much on track with that," said Claire Hinshelwood, CFO of Evotec, in a statement regarding the program.

Addressing Market Complexity

The company is attempting to simplify its narrative for shareholders who have struggled to categorize its service offerings. The firm's business model includes drug discovery, development, and manufacturing, which executives acknowledged has created hurdles in investor communication.

"Because of that breadth of offer, maybe our story is a little bit complex to tell. I think the market has probably struggled to just understand where do you position Evotec and really what is their offering," Hinshelwood said.

To address this, the company is pivoting its Just-Evotec Biologics division toward a model that prioritizes a mix of contract development and manufacturing organization work, technology licensing, and long-term royalty streams. This structure is intended to reduce capital intensity while maintaining the firm's role in the drug development pipeline.

Financial Context and Market Performance

These strategic shifts occur against a backdrop of depressed valuations. As of September 16, 2026, Evotec shares were trading at $1.62, hovering near a 52-week low of $1.60. The stock has faced downward pressure, declining 47% year-to-date and 56% over the past twelve months.

For investors, the success of the Horizon program remains a critical metric. The targeted EUR 75 million in savings represents an effort to improve operational efficiency as the company navigates a challenging period for the biotech sector. The phased implementation, with 20% to 30% of savings expected to materialize in 2026, serves as a benchmark for the company’s turnaround efforts.
