Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 4, 2026
This describes what information Embers collects when you use the Site, why, and what you can do about it. We try to collect as little as the Site actually needs to function.
What we collect
- Newsletter signup: your email address, and the date you subscribed. Nothing else is required to subscribe.
- Contact form: the name, email address, and message you submit, plus a one-way hash of your IP address (not the address itself), used only to prevent spam and abuse of the form, per the section below.
- Analytics (only if you accept cookies): standard web analytics, including pages viewed, approximate location (country/city level), device and browser type, and how you arrived at the Site, via Google Analytics. This only runs after you accept the cookie banner; see our Cookie Policy for detail.
- Advertising (if enabled): if the Site serves ads through Google AdSense, Google may set its own cookies and collect data per its own policies to show and measure ads. See the Cookie Policy for how to opt out.
What we don't do
We don't sell your personal information. We don't require an account or any personal information to read articles. We don't track you across other sites for our own purposes.
How we use it
- Newsletter emails are used only to send you Embers content you signed up for.
- Contact form submissions are used only to read and respond to your message. A reply, if we send one, goes to the email address you provided.
- Analytics data is used in aggregate to understand traffic and what content is working.
Third-party services
We use a small number of third-party services to run the Site:
- Google Analytics: traffic analytics, only after cookie consent.
- Google AdSense: advertising, if and where enabled.
- Resend: delivers reply emails when we respond to a contact form submission.
Each operates under its own privacy policy, which governs how it separately handles any data it processes.
How long we keep it
Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe (every email includes an unsubscribe link). Contact form submissions are kept as long as reasonably needed to address them and keep a record of the exchange. IP hashes used for spam prevention are kept only as long as needed for that purpose.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe from the newsletter any time via the link in any email we send.
- Decline analytics cookies from the consent banner, or clear your browser's local storage to reset that choice.
- Ask us to tell you what we have on file, or to delete it, via the contact page. We'll act on reasonable requests promptly.
Children
Embers isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
