Piper Sandler has initiated coverage on Broadcom (AVGO) with an overweight rating and a $460 price target. The firm cites the semiconductor company's position in custom AI hardware as a primary growth driver. Analysts project a 51% compound annual growth rate for Broadcom's earnings per share through 2030, which indicates confidence in the company's long-term performance.
ASIC Market Dominance and AI Infrastructure
Broadcom currently holds a 75% market share in application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) designed for AI inference. These custom chips are essential for major hyperscalers and AI laboratories. These organizations rely on co-design relationships with Broadcom to optimize their proprietary AI workloads.
"Our charitable trust substantially reduced its Broadcom position before the quarterly report due to concerns regarding competition and the politicization of AI infrastructure development," said Jim Cramer in recent commentary regarding institutional sentiment toward the sector.
Revenue Visibility and Scaling Demand
Broadcom’s networking business is also expanding. The company maintains a 30% attach rate for its networking solutions, providing revenue visibility for the coming years. According to a report from Investing.com, the firm anticipates demand to reach 12 gigawatts in fiscal year 2027 and scale to 38 gigawatts by 2030.
What Is at Stake for Investors
This initiation highlights the tension between Broadcom's central role in the AI supply chain and the risks associated with infrastructure concentration. Piper Sandler emphasizes the company's technical moat in custom silicon. Institutional investors continue to weigh these growth prospects against potential headwinds, including increased competition and geopolitical factors affecting the semiconductor industry.
