Genus plc reported a 35% surge in adjusted profit to £100.2 million for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2026, alongside a £60 million share buyback, despite a 2% dip in revenue.
The global animal genetics company posted adjusted earnings per share of 110.3 pence, matching the 35% year-over-year increase seen in its adjusted profit before tax, according to an Investing.com report.
Revenue and Segment Impacts
Total revenue declined 2% to £658.1 million during the period. The drop in top-line figures was driven primarily by the deconsolidation of PIC China following a joint venture formation with Beijing Capital Agribusiness & Foods Group, known as BCA.
Operating performance across remaining business units offset the top-line contraction, leading to expanded profit margins. The preliminary fiscal year results highlight how operational adjustments and portfolio restructuring can drive profitability even when gross revenue slips.
Balance Sheet and Leverage Improvements
Alongside its earnings report, the company announced a £60 million share buyback program. This capital return initiative coincides with a sharp reduction in corporate leverage.
Net debt dropped to £71.8 million as of June 30, 2026, falling from £228.2 million a year earlier. This reduction improved the company's net debt to adjusted EBITDA leverage ratio to 0.4x, down from 1.5x in the prior fiscal year.
