Xiaomi shares rose 7.6% to HK$25.46 on the Hang Seng index, outperforming broader market gains as the company reported strong initial orders and deliveries for its newly introduced SkyNomad hybrid electric vehicle lineup. The rally positioned the consumer electronics giant among the top performers on the benchmark index, which advanced 1.3% over the same trading session.

The newly launched SkyNomad models (comprising the N90 and N70 variants) clinched 70,000 orders in their first month of availability, according to an Investing.com report.

Delivery Milestones and Production Scale

Building on the initial order intake, Xiaomi delivered over 10,000 SkyNomad vehicles in September. This volume pushed total monthly car deliveries past 40,000 units, marking the company's best monthly performance so far in 2026.

The delivery acceleration demonstrates Xiaomi's expanding manufacturing capacity in the Chinese electric vehicle market, where major manufacturers frequently battle for production velocity and supply chain stability. By crossing the 40,000-unit monthly threshold, the firm solidifies its operational footing following initial skepticism regarding hardware manufacturing expansion from consumer electronics.

How Hybrid Range Extension Works

The SkyNomad line marks a strategic product expansion for Xiaomi by shifting away from pure battery-electric vehicles toward range-extended hybrid architecture. While Xiaomi's prior SU7 and YU7 offerings relied strictly on battery power, the SkyNomad models incorporate an internal combustion engine to function as an onboard generator.

Range-extended electric vehicles (EREVs) use a traditional fuel engine solely to recharge the battery pack, rather than mechanically driving the wheels. This setup addresses range anxiety for long-distance drivers by combining the driving dynamics of an electric motor with the refueling convenience of gasoline infrastructure.

Market Position and Broader Context

The strong reception of the SkyNomad lineup highlights growing consumer demand for versatile electrified transport options in Asia. As legacy automakers and tech entrants crowd the electric vehicle sector, hybrid alternatives are seeing accelerated adoption among buyers seeking lower emissions without complete reliance on public charging networks.

For Xiaomi, the successful rollout provides diversified revenue streams beyond its core smartphone and smart-home ecosystem. Maintaining momentum across both pure electric and hybrid segments will remain central to the firm's automotive division as it scales toward long-term profitability targets in the sector.
