Analysts at UBS and Mizuho have lowered their price targets for Antero Resources (AR) because of softer natural gas pricing and reduced production expectations. Despite these revisions, both firms maintained their bullish ratings on the stock, reflecting confidence in the company fundamentals.
UBS reduced its price target for Antero Resources to $54 from $58. Mizuho lowered its target to $51 from $57. Both adjustments follow volatility in the natural gas market, which has pressured the expected output and valuation of major producers.
Production Guidance and Market Pressure
Antero Resources is projecting production volumes at the lower end of its previous guidance, estimating a range of 4.25 to 4.30 billion cubic feet equivalent (bcfe) per day. This output is attributed to unplanned operational outages and strategic production decisions made in response to current price environments.
Contrasting Analyst Sentiment
While UBS and Mizuho have adopted a cautious stance, other market observers remain optimistic about the company long-term margin trajectory. Raymond James recently raised its price target for Antero Resources to $55 from $50, citing a projected margin improvement of approximately $0.35 per unit from 2025 through the end of 2028.
What Is at Stake for Investors
The split in analyst sentiment highlights uncertainty surrounding domestic natural gas pricing. For producers like Antero, the ability to maintain profitability while navigating fluctuating commodity prices remains a primary concern for the market. Price target revisions from UBS and Mizuho reflect concerns over volume and pricing, and the divergence in targets underscores a debate regarding whether current price weakness is a temporary cyclical hurdle or a persistent challenge for the sector.
