Uber has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire catering platform ezCater in an all-cash transaction valued at $2.3 billion. The acquisition allows the ride-hailing and delivery company to capture a larger share of the business-to-business food delivery market, moving beyond consumer-facing restaurant orders.
"Catering is a big business, and can be a huge revenue stream for restaurants," said Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber, in a statement regarding the acquisition.
ezCater connects corporate clients with local catering services and has achieved notable scale in the segment. According to the official company announcement, the platform generated more than $2.5 billion in gross bookings over the trailing twelve months. Its model relies on high-ticket transactions, with average order values consistently exceeding $400.
Strategic Expansion into B2B Food Services
The integration of ezCater into the Uber Eats ecosystem uses Uber's existing logistics network to provide restaurants with a dedicated channel for large-format catering orders. By acquiring an established player in the corporate space, Uber intends to diversify its revenue streams and increase the utility of its platform for merchant partners.
"We're energized to bring our catering and B2B expertise to Uber's global ecosystem of customers, merchants, and couriers," said Nihad Rahman, CEO of ezCater.
Transaction Timeline and Market Impact
The deal is pending customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals. Uber expects the transaction to finalize in the coming months.
As of October 9, 2026, Uber shares were trading at $71.51, an increase of 1.81% following the announcement. The acquisition represents a pivot toward high-volume, enterprise-level delivery, a segment requiring different logistics and customer service workflows than traditional, single-meal consumer deliveries.
