Danish insurer Tryg reported a third-quarter pre-tax profit of 2.12 billion Danish crowns, beating the 1.87 billion crown consensus and lifting its shares more than 3% as benign claims and strong underwriting bolstered results, according to a Yahoo Finance report.

"We delivered the highest ever reported insurance service result supported by strong results in Sweden and Norway, and benign levels of large and weather claims," said Johan Kirstein Brammer, Chief Executive Officer, Tryg, in a statement regarding the earnings.

Record Insurance Service Result and Combined Ratio

The profit beat was driven by a record-high insurance service result of 2.45 billion crowns, topping the 2.30 billion crown consensus and rising from 2.18 billion crowns a year earlier.

Profitability also improved through core underwriting metrics. The combined ratio strengthened to 76.8% from 78.6% in the prior-year period, outperforming the 78.3% consensus forecast.

In the insurance industry, the combined ratio measures the money paid out in claims and expenses relative to income earned from premiums. A lower figure indicates greater operational profitability.

New Motor Partnerships in Scandinavia

Alongside the financial results, Tryg announced three new automotive partnerships across the Nordic region to expand its distribution footprint.

  • Mercedes-Benz: Partnership launched in Sweden.
  • Tesla: Partnership launched in Denmark.
  • XPENG: Partnership launched in Norway.

Market Position and Outlook

The earnings performance shows the insurer's ability to navigate Nordic property and casualty markets while keeping weather-related losses contained. The expansion of manufacturer tie-ups with electric vehicle and traditional luxury brands positions Tryg to capture recurring premium flows directly through point-of-sale insurance offerings in its key Scandinavian markets.
