Salesforce is in active discussions to acquire artificial intelligence customer research platform Listen Labs for approximately $2 billion, according to a Business Insider report. The potential transaction highlights enterprise software giants' ongoing appetite for specialized AI infrastructure, though the negotiations remain unfinalized and could ultimately fall through.

Following news of the acquisition talks on Wednesday, Salesforce shares fell by about 2.0% in public market trading.

"The talks have not been finalized and could ultimately be unsuccessful," according to a Business Insider report.

Valuation Metrics and Abandoned Funding Rounds

Founded in 2023 by Alfred Wahlforss and Florian Juengermann, Listen Labs has rapidly scaled its automated customer feedback and research tools. The startup generates roughly $30 million in annual revenue, according to American Bazaar Online. At a $2 billion price tag, the prospective acquisition values the young company at roughly 67 times its annualized revenue.

Before entering discussions with Salesforce, Listen Labs had pursued traditional venture funding. The startup previously signed a term sheet for a $125 million Series C financing round at a $1.5 billion valuation led by Menlo Ventures, but ultimately walked away from that agreement in favor of a potential outright sale, as reported by American Bazaar Online.

Enterprise Strategy for AI Capabilities

For Salesforce, absorbing Listen Labs would add specialized natural language processing tools capable of parsing qualitative customer data at scale. Large software providers are increasingly looking to embed direct user research automation into customer relationship management suites, bypassing traditional survey methods in favor of continuous AI-driven insights.

The discussions underscore the premium valuations commanded by early-stage generative AI infrastructure firms that show rapid revenue acceleration. If completed, the transaction would rank among the notable software acquisitions aimed at bolstering enterprise automation portfolios.
