Mizuho Raises Belite Bio Target to $234 on Japan NDA

Mizuho raised its price target on Belite Bio, Inc. ADR (NASDAQ:BLTE) to $234 from $220 while maintaining an Outperform rating following the company's New Drug Application filing in Japan for tinlarebant in Stargardt disease type 1 under the Sakigake Designation pathway.

Regulatory Milestone in Japan
The New Drug Application submitted by Belite Bio covers tinlarebant for the treatment of Stargardt disease type 1. The filing utilizes Japan's Sakigake Designation, an expedited regulatory pathway designed to accelerate the review and approval of innovative medical products for patients with severe conditions.
Following the regulatory submission, Mizuho analysts adjusted their timeline expectations for the candidate. Approval and commercial launch in Japan could occur in the first half of 2027, arriving ahead of initial projections.
Revenue Projections and Financial Impact
Alongside the target adjustment, Mizuho revised its financial models for the biotechnology firm. The firm increased its worldwide risk-unadjusted revenue estimates for Belite Bio to $4.4 billion from $4.3 billion. Risk-adjusted revenue estimates were raised to $3.4 billion from $3.3 billion.
Understanding Stargardt Disease Type 1
Stargardt disease type 1 is a rare, inherited eye disorder characterized by the progressive degeneration of the macula, the central portion of the retina responsible for sharp, straight-ahead vision. The condition typically manifests in childhood or adolescence, leading to severe vision loss driven by the accumulation of toxic vitamin A dimers in the retina.
Tinlarebant functions as an oral therapy designed to reduce the buildup of these vitamin A-based toxins by lowering circulating levels of retinol-binding protein 4, or RBP4. By intercepting this biochemical pathway, the drug aims to slow the rate of retinal cell death in patients suffering from the degenerative disease, for which no widely accepted pharmacological treatments currently exist.
