Lamb Weston reported fiscal first-quarter earnings that surpassed analyst expectations. The company raised its full-year guidance because North American demand offset international weakness. The frozen potato processor posted adjusted earnings per share (EPS) of $0.75, which beat the $0.59 consensus estimate.
"We are off to a solid start to the year, delivering first quarter net sales and profit above our expectations," said Mike Smith, president and chief executive officer, in a statement regarding the results.
Segment Performance Divergence
The company’s overall results show a disparity between its domestic and global operations, as detailed in a report by Investing.com. North American sales grew 5% to $1.14 billion. Conversely, the International segment reported an 8% decline in sales to $529 million. The impact on profitability was significant, as the International segment’s adjusted EBITDA fell 54% to $27 million.
Updated Financial Outlook
Following the quarter's performance, Lamb Weston revised its full-year outlook. The company now expects adjusted EPS to range between $3.05 and $3.35, with a midpoint of $3.20. This revision is higher than the previous analyst consensus of $3.01. Management expects domestic strength to continue mitigating international volatility through the remainder of the fiscal year.
Market Reaction
Despite the initial positive reaction to the earnings beat, Lamb Weston Holdings Inc (LW) shares faced selling pressure in broader trading. As of the market close on October 9, 2026, the stock settled at $47.87, a 3.21% decline from the previous session's close.
This volatility highlights the challenges facing the company as it balances the North American market, which accounts for the majority of its revenue, against international operations that are currently reducing overall margins.
