Lake Victoria Gold has finished the statutory land disclosure process for the Phase 3 land valuation at its Imwelo Gold Project in Tanzania’s Geita Region. This is a step toward securing site access. The company finished the disclosure phase in approximately five weeks, which helps prevent project schedule delays.
The process began on August 1, 2026, and concluded with final meetings held on September 7-8, 2026. During this period, the program scope expanded to include full property acquisitions for certain landholders who requested them. This provides the company with additional acreage that may facilitate future development.
Understanding the Statutory Disclosure Process
In Tanzania, the land acquisition process for mining projects requires a formal valuation and disclosure phase to ensure transparency with Project Affected Persons (PAPs). This stage involves presenting the valuation results to the affected landholders for their review and agreement.
Once disclosure is complete, the final valuation report must be submitted to the Office of the Chief Government Valuer for formal endorsement. The company can proceed with the issuance of compensation payments only after this regulatory sign-off. These payments are a prerequisite for gaining full physical access to the land for mining operations.
Project Status and Risks
The completion of the disclosure phase is an administrative milestone, but the Imwelo Gold Project remains in the development stage. According to company disclosures, Lake Victoria Gold has not yet completed a feasibility study. Consequently, the project lacks established mineral reserves that would formally demonstrate its economic and technical viability.
The company’s ability to maintain its development timeline relies on the efficient processing of these land-related regulatory requirements. By finalizing the disclosure phase within five weeks, the firm has reduced the duration of a critical-path activity that frequently serves as a bottleneck for mining projects in the region.
