Jacobs Solutions Inc. has been selected by EnergyPathways plc to provide planning, regulatory, and consenting services for the MESH Energy Storage Project in the United Kingdom, a facility designed to deliver over 190 hours of storage duration.

"MESH represents an important infrastructure development for Barrow-in-Furness and the wider U.K. energy system," said Richard Sanderson, Jacobs Executive Vice President, in a statement regarding the contract.

Project Specifications and Timeline

The MESH project is planned for the Irish Sea, featuring onshore infrastructure connecting to Barrow-in-Furness. The facility is designed as a 300-megawatt, 55-gigawatt-hour integrated energy storage installation that combines compressed air, natural gas, and hydrogen storage capabilities.

EnergyPathways targets operational launch for the facility by 2031, subject to securing the necessary regulatory consents and project financing. Jacobs will lead the Development Consent Order activities, navigating the UK's complex planning framework for major infrastructure projects.

Market Data and Financial Context

In the public markets, Jacobs Solutions Inc (NYSE: J) stock closed at $146.23 as of September 4, 2026, falling 0.89% from its previous close of $147.54, according to Finnhub market data.

What the MESH Project Means for U.K. Energy

The development highlights a push toward large-scale, long-duration energy storage assets within the United Kingdom. By integrating multiple storage mediums from compressed air to hydrogen, the MESH facility aims to address grid intermittency and bolster regional energy security as the U.K. transitions its power infrastructure over the coming decade.
