Carlsberg shares fell 2.4% to trade at 1,015 DKK, touching a session low after an Investing.com report detailed a rating downgrade and price target cut from Jefferies analysts.

The investment firm lowered its rating on the Danish brewer to hold from buy, alongside a significant reduction in its price target to 950 Danish crowns from 1,100 crowns, citing mounting growth headwinds in key Asian and international markets.

"Slower growth is a headwind to re-rating," Jefferies said in a note regarding the downgrade, warning that weaker sales could also pressure Carlsberg's medium-term growth target of 4% to 6%.

China Volumetrics and Regional Headwinds

The downgrade highlights structural challenges in Carlsberg's core geographic segments, particularly in China. The Chinese market accounts for approximately 30% of total beer volumes and functions as the primary swing factor for the company's financial performance.

According to the Jefferies assessment, rising domestic competition across China is expected to temper future volume expansion. This regional deceleration directly threatens the brewer's ability to maintain upward momentum in its international premium portfolio.

Organic Sales Projections for 2026 and 2027

Financial models from the Jefferies research note point toward a subdued trajectory for underlying metrics. Analysts estimate underlying organic sales growth of about 1.3% in 2026, even after factoring in a temporary boost from operations in Kazakhstan.

This projected 1.3% rate implies that a sharp acceleration would be required to meet broader consensus estimates of 3.5% organic growth by 2027. Market participants are closely monitoring these figures as the brewer attempts to navigate softer consumer demand and defend its profit margins against aggressive regional competitors.
