Zevra Therapeutics highlighted stronger-than-expected adult diagnosis rates for Niemann-Pick disease type C at the Morgan Stanley conference, expanding its addressable market view toward its full 900-patient prevalence estimate. The rare-disease treatment provider reported sustained adoption for its therapy MIPLYFFA, alongside a debt-free balance sheet as of late 2026.

"A year ago today, I would not have told you that 50% of our patients would be adult patients. They used to coin Niemann-Pick disease type C as childhood Alzheimer’s, and today we’re understanding more, we’re learning more," said Chief Executive Neil during the presentation at the Morgan Stanley conference transcript.

Prescription Metrics and Diagnosis Trends

Operational metrics shared by management indicate that MIPLYFFA reached 184 prescription enrollment forms in the U.S. across six quarters. According to company disclosures, this enrollment figure captures approximately 52 percent to 61 percent of the estimated diagnosed patient pool in the domestic market.

Historically categorized as a pediatric condition, Niemann-Pick disease type C is seeing broader clinical recognition among adult populations. This diagnostic shift accounts for the higher-than-anticipated utilization rates observed by the commercial team, pushing the addressable patient population closer to the total estimated domestic prevalence of 900 individuals.

Balance Sheet and Market Valuation

Financial backing for Zevra's commercial pipeline includes significant liquidity reserves. The company ended the second quarter with $260 million in cash and operates without debt, following the strategic monetization of non-core assets and future royalty streams.

In the public markets, Zevra Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ: ZVRA) shares traded at $11.94, representing a 1.19% increase from the previous close of $11.80 as of September 17, 2026, according to Finnhub market data.

What Is at Stake for Rare-Disease Therapeutics

The ability to capture adult patient populations in ultra-orphan indications alters the revenue longevity and commercial potential for specialized biopharmaceutical firms. By tapping into previously unrecognized cohorts, developers of treatments for conditions like Niemann-Pick disease type C can extend commercial runways beyond initial pediatric projections.
