Sempra Infrastructure has signed a 20-year sales and purchase agreement with Brazil's Petrobras to supply approximately 0.8 million tonnes per annum of liquefied natural gas from the Port Arthur LNG Phase 2 project in Texas, marking a significant export milestone.

"We are pleased to welcome Petrobras as the first South American company in our LNG customer portfolio, marking an important milestone for Sempra Infrastructure's growing LNG business," said Justin Bird, CEO of Sempra Infrastructure, in a statement regarding the agreement.

Port Arthur LNG Phase 2 Capacity and Timeline

The agreement expands the commercial footprint of the Port Arthur LNG Phase 2 project currently under development in Jefferson County, Texas. Following a positive final investment decision in September 2025, Phase 2 is designed to feature two liquefaction trains capable of producing approximately 13 million tonnes per annum of LNG.

Commercial operations for the expansion phase are scheduled to launch between 2030 and 2031. The 0.8 million tonnes per annum allocated to Petrobras will be sourced directly from Sempra Infrastructure's contracted liquefaction capacity within the facility.

"This long-term agreement establishes a strategic relationship with one of the world's leading energy companies and underscores the important role Sempra Infrastructure plays in providing reliable and secure U.S. natural gas to a growing list of customers around the world," said Justin Bird, CEO of Sempra Infrastructure.

Strategic Expansion Into South American Markets

The long-term contract represents the first direct supply relationship between Sempra Infrastructure and a South American corporate entity. For Petrobras, officially known as Petróleo Brasileiro S.A., the 20-year commitment secures a stable, long-term import channel of North American natural gas to support regional energy security and industrial demand across Brazil.

As global energy markets shift to accommodate growing LNG demand, large-scale export facilities along the U.S. Gulf Coast continue to anchor long-term supply contracts with international utilities and state-backed energy giants. The inclusion of Petrobras diversifies Sempra's customer base across Latin America while advancing the construction timeline for the multi-train Port Arthur infrastructure complex.
