WSP Global Inc. is expanding its Canadian engineering consulting footprint and industrial capabilities through a C$600 million agreement to acquire GCM Corpo Inc., positioning itself more strongly in the energy, industrial, and mining sectors.
The transaction is scheduled to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, pending customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals. According to an Investing.com report, a portion of the purchase price will be paid in WSP common shares to selling stakeholders.
"GCM Corpo is highly complementary to WSP and a strong strategic fit for our business," said Alexandre L’Heureux, President and Chief Executive Officer of WSP, in a statement regarding the acquisition.
Workforce and Subsidiary Structure
GCM Corpo employs approximately 600 professionals distributed across Quebec, Western Canada, and Atlantic Canada. The firm operates through six subsidiary companies, providing specialized engineering and consulting services tailored to complex industrial and energy operations.
"Joining WSP will allow us to accelerate the momentum we have created and pursue our ambitions from an even stronger position," said Jonathan Clément, President of GCM Corpo.
Share Consideration and Regulatory Approval
The funding structure includes issuing WSP common shares to key sellers, notably Fonds de solidarité FTQ, which serves as GCM Corpo's largest shareholder. WSP has already secured conditional approval from the Toronto Stock Exchange for the issuance of the shares required to complete the transaction.
Strategic Energy Expansion
The acquisition reflects an ongoing industry push by major engineering firms to scale capabilities in critical resource sectors. By integrating GCM Corpo's network of 600 professionals, WSP deepens its technical bench strength across Canadian energy markets, positioning the combined entity to service large-scale industrial and mining projects as demand for infrastructure development evolves.
