Volvo Cars has withdrawn its full-year 2026 sales volume and cash flow guidance after an 11% drop in third-quarter deliveries, as persistent headwinds in Asian and North American markets weigh on operations.
The automaker's decision comes as global demand splits along regional lines, with a severe market contraction in China and a sluggish U.S. premium segment offset only partially by EV adoption across Europe.
"The market downturn in China showed no signs of easing, and the recovery in the US premium segment remained below our earlier expectations," said Erik Severinson, Chief Commercial Officer at Volvo Cars, in a Yahoo Finance report.
Global Delivery Figures and Regional Splits
Global deliveries for the third quarter fell 10.7% year-over-year to 141,609 cars, according to data cited by Investing.com.
While traditional and overseas markets faced contraction, European operations demonstrated resilience. Fully electric car sales grew 29% in Europe, accounting for 32% of all vehicles sold by the manufacturer during the quarter.
Market analysts noted that the lowered outlook reflects broader macroeconomic pressures impacting legacy automakers transitioning toward electrification while confronting uneven regional recoveries.
"This is partly expected because we’ve seen that the market has been very tough," said Handelsbanken analyst Hampus Engellau regarding the pulled sales guidance, per Investing.com.
Stock Performance and Market Impact
Following the guidance withdrawal and delivery update, Volvo Cars shares dropped as much as 4% in early trade to a record low of 14.60 crowns per share. The single-session decline extended year-to-date losses for the automaker to approximately 50%.
The removal of forward guidance leaves investors without a formal management benchmark for the remainder of fiscal 2026, intensifying scrutiny on upcoming quarterly earnings reports as the company navigates regional supply and demand imbalances.
