U.S. financial markets are bracing for the upcoming nonfarm payrolls report amid shifting Federal Reserve rate expectations, alongside major corporate restructuring at Nike and a structured financing deal by Amazon.
"Clearly, the monthly jobs reports are always a macro highlight, but this is an important one, as the continued data resilience has been a huge factor supporting U.S. risk assets," analysts at Deutsche Bank said in a note.
Labor Data and Federal Reserve Rate Probabilities
Economists project the U.S. economy added 89,000 roles in September, marking a slowdown from 162,000 positions added in August, while the unemployment rate is expected to hold steady at 4.1%, according to data cited by Investing.com.
At the same time, interest rate expectations have experienced significant volatility. Markets are pricing in approximately a 30% probability of a rate hike at the Federal Reserve's October meeting, representing a sharp decline from the 70% odds priced earlier in the week.
Nike Restructuring and Revenue Projections
Corporate developments are also drawing investor attention. Athletic footwear and apparel giant Nike is moving to reduce headcount and overhaul its global divisions under the leadership of CEO Elliott Hill, according to Investing.com.
Along with the organizational shakeup, Nike's financial outlook points to top-line contraction, with revenue anticipated to drop in the high single digits during fiscal 2027.
Amazon Nvidia Grace Blackwell Financing
In the technology sector, Amazon is pursuing alternative financing arrangements for heavy artificial intelligence infrastructure. The e-commerce and cloud computing conglomerate is reportedly seeking to offload roughly $8 billion worth of advanced Nvidia Grace Blackwell chips to external investors.
Under the proposed structure, Amazon would utilize a special purpose vehicle to facilitate the transaction before leasing the high-performance hardware back for its data center operations.
