Velo3D shares dropped 8.1% in premarket trading following the abrupt departure of Chief Financial Officer James Suva and the appointment of an outside consultant as interim replacement. The management shift introduces a period of transition for the metal additive manufacturing provider as it brings in an experienced corporate advisor to manage its financial operations.
"There are no disagreements between Mr. Suva and the company on any matter relating to the company's operations, policies, or practices," Velo3D stated in an 8-K filing.
SEC Disclosure and Interim Leadership
According to an SEC filing published on October 2, 2026, Suva separated from employment on September 28, 2026. To fill the vacancy, the Velo3D board of directors appointed 70-year-old Terence P. Wynn as Interim Chief Financial Officer, effective the same day.
Wynn is providing his services through KongBasileConsulting LLC. Under the terms of the Officer Services Agreement, KongBasileConsulting receives a monthly consulting fee of $32,500, alongside pre-approved expense reimbursements.
Market Valuation and Stock Performance
Finnhub market data as of October 9, 2026, shows Velo3D (VELO) stock trading at $8.67. The price represents a 3.45% decline from its previous close of $8.98, building on the downward pressure that followed the initial announcement of Suva's exit.
What the CFO Transition Means for Velo3D
Executive departures, particularly within the finance division, often introduce short-term volatility as markets assess corporate stability. By utilizing an interim executive from an outside consultancy rather than an immediate internal promotion, Velo3D has opted for external financial oversight while maintaining standard operational compliance during the search for a permanent successor.
