Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) posted its sixth consecutive quarter of record profit. This performance stems from global demand for AI-specific semiconductors and advanced packaging technologies. The firm reported a third-quarter net profit of NT$763.1 billion, a 68.7% increase compared to the same period last year, which exceeded market expectations.

"TSMC's stronger-than-expected results and upgraded full-year revenue outlook underscore how demand for advanced chips continues to outpace its production capacity, with the company's elevated capital spending reflecting confidence in sustained growth over the coming years," said Sravan Kundojjala, an analyst at SemiAnalysis.

Operational Efficiency and Revenue Guidance

TSMC demonstrated operational efficiency during the quarter. The company recorded an operating margin of 58.7%, which surpassed its own internal guidance range of 58%.

The company anticipates growth in the fourth quarter. TSMC projects revenue for the final three months of the year to reach between $52.3 billion and $54.3 billion, a 14% sequential increase. This outlook suggests that the supply constraints affecting the semiconductor industry will persist.

The Role of Advanced Packaging

A factor in TSMC's performance is its proprietary CoWoS (Chip-on-Wafer-on-Substrate) packaging technology. CoWoS allows multiple chips to be integrated into a single package. This is essential for the high-performance computing requirements of modern artificial intelligence processors. As AI hardware developers increase the power and efficiency of their systems, demand for this specialized packaging has become a primary bottleneck in the global supply chain. This positions TSMC as a central beneficiary.

Global Expansion and Production Timeline

To address capacity concerns, TSMC is continuing its geographic diversification. Construction of the company's second fabrication plant in Arizona is complete, and equipment installation is underway. The company confirmed that mass production at the Arizona facility is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2027.

These capital-intensive projects are designed to meet the sustained growth in chip demand that analysts expect as AI integration expands across enterprise and consumer sectors.
