Stifel lowered its price target on Olema Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: OLMA) from $48 to $30 while maintaining a Buy rating following competitive trial setbacks in breast cancer treatment, according to an Investing.com report. The target reduction reflects broader industry concerns after rival drug candidates stumbled in late-stage testing.

AstraZeneca and Roche Trial Setbacks

The analyst adjustments arrive in the wake of competitor trial failures in the first-line advanced ER+/HER2- breast cancer setting. AstraZeneca announced that its Phase 3 SERENA-4 trial failed to meet its primary endpoint of progression-free survival.

This marks the second oral selective estrogen receptor degrader (SERD) Phase 3 trial in 2026 to miss its primary goal in that specific treatment setting, following a similar setback by Roche with its persevERA trial. Oral SERDs are designed to block estrogen receptors and degrade them, offering a potential alternative to traditional hormone therapies.

Olema's Pipeline Timeline and Cash Burn

Despite the competitive headwinds, Olema Pharmaceuticals continues advancing its own pipeline. The company's Phase 3 trial in the first-line advanced setting, OPERA-02, has maintained strong patient enrollment and anticipates topline data in 2028.

Olema retains the flexibility to apply insights from the failed SERENA-4 and persevERA studies to adjust the statistical powering of OPERA-02 before data readout. However, financial metrics remain a focal point for analysts monitoring the clinical timeline.

Olema reported a levered free cash flow of negative $165 million, balanced by a current ratio of 8.86. Stifel noted that capital expenditure and ongoing cash burn associated with pursuing the first-line advanced breast cancer indication will likely face heightened investor scrutiny.

Broader Analyst Adjustments and Market Action

Other Wall Street institutions have also recalibrated their expectations for the biotechnology firm. H.C. Wainwright adjusted its price target for Olema Pharmaceuticals to $36 from $38 while maintaining a Buy rating on the stock.

Meanwhile, shares of rating firm Stifel Financial Corp (NYSE: SF) traded at $76.82, down 1.47% from a previous close of $77.97 as of 20:00 UTC on September 15, 2026, according to Finnhub market data.
