SailPoint is positioning its identity governance platform as a security layer for enterprise AI. The company has set a target to derive $800 million in revenue from agentic-related services by fiscal 2029. This growth initiative represents approximately 38% of the company's projected $2.1 billion total revenue for that period.

"Agents do not operate in a vacuum; they inherit policies from the people and systems that authorize them. That makes identity governance central to the next wave of enterprise AI," said Mark McClain, Founder and CEO of SailPoint, at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference.

Scaling Identity for AI Workflows

As organizations deploy autonomous AI agents to handle business processes, the need to manage and verify the permissions these agents inherit has become a security concern. SailPoint’s strategy involves embedding identity governance into the authorization frameworks that govern agent behavior, ensuring that AI-driven tasks remain compliant with corporate security policies.

To accelerate the transition of its customer base toward these capabilities, the company launched "Agentic Acceleration" two months ago. The tool automates the migration process from the company's legacy on-premises IdentityIQ product to its current SaaS platform. According to the company's presentation, early deployments of the tool have demonstrated a reduction in migration time and costs of up to 90%.

Financial Context and Market Position

SailPoint is currently navigating a period of transition as it shifts its installed base to cloud-native identity solutions. The $800 million agentic revenue goal serves as a performance indicator for the company's long-term pivot toward AI-integrated security.

As of September 15, 2026, SailPoint (SAIL) stock is trading at $19.98. The company's ability to successfully migrate legacy users to the SaaS platform remains a factor in achieving its revenue targets, as the efficiency gains reported by the Agentic Acceleration tool are intended to lower the barrier for enterprise clients to adopt newer, AI-ready identity management services.

Why Identity Governance Matters in the Agentic Era

In traditional IT environments, identity governance involves managing human access to systems and data. In the agentic era, where software agents perform tasks on behalf of users, the scope of governance expands to include machine-to-machine authorization. If these agents are not properly governed, they can inadvertently gain excessive permissions, exposing sensitive data or violating regulatory compliance requirements. SailPoint's current roadmap aims to solve this by treating AI agents as distinct identities that require the same level of oversight and policy enforcement as human employees.
