Roth/MKM downgraded eGain Corporation (NASDAQ:EGAN) to Neutral from Buy and slashed its price target to $7.00 from $21.00 following weak fiscal 2027 guidance. The drastic target reduction reflects a sharp reversal in growth expectations as the customer service software provider navigates a difficult transition away from its legacy revenue streams.
eGain stock trades at $5.84, down 43% year-to-date and 39% over the past six months, reflecting investor concern over the company's near-term trajectory.
Revenue Projections and the Fiscal 2027 Outlook
The analyst revision stems from deteriorating financial forecasts for upcoming fiscal periods. According to an Investing.com report, Roth/MKM now projects a year-over-year revenue decline of roughly $6 million for fiscal 2027. This projection contrasts sharply with prior estimates that anticipated $5 million in revenue growth for the same period.
The downward revision highlights the financial friction companies face when modernizing older software architectures. Digital transformation initiatives often promise long-term operational efficiencies, but the immediate migration period can introduce substantial top-line volatility.
The Legacy Phase-Out and AI Growth Constraints
The core challenge facing eGain involves a multi-year customer migration. The company anticipates that its entire legacy revenue base will trail off by fiscal 2030.
During this transition, legacy customer attrition is offsetting modest AI revenue growth of roughly 20%, according to the Investing.com report. Even as artificial intelligence deployments expand, the contraction of older maintenance and subscription streams is currently outpacing new gains.
What Is at Stake for Software Transition Models
The rating change underscores the risks inherent in enterprise software providers attempting to pivot their business models. For eGain, the speed at which legacy accounts churn compared to the adoption rate of newer AI-driven products will dictate its financial recovery as the 2030 sunset date approaches.
