Rosenblatt Securities has reiterated its Buy rating and $120.00 price target on Ambarella (NASDAQ:AMBA). The firm points to the launch of the X7 standalone AI accelerator as a catalyst for the company's expansion into edge-AI computing markets. The analyst firm maintains a positive outlook as Ambarella attempts to capture demand for power-efficient artificial intelligence processing at the network edge.
"Edge AI will scale across many fragmented verticals rather than through one dominant killer app," said Muneyb Minhazuddin, Customer Growth Officer at Ambarella, speaking at the 6th Annual Age of AI Technology Summit.
Technical Specifications of the X7 Accelerator
The X7 AI accelerator is engineered to address the power and memory constraints of edge devices. According to the product release details, the chip operates within a power envelope of 2 to 5 watts and requires 4MB of low-power DDR5 memory. This focus on efficiency enables complex AI workloads on hardware with limited thermal and power capacity.
Financial Performance and Market Position
Ambarella reported its fiscal second-quarter 2027 results, showing revenue of $108.1 million and non-GAAP earnings per share of $0.18. These figures exceeded consensus estimates from Wall Street analysts, providing a baseline of growth as the company shifts its product portfolio toward specialized AI silicon.
Why Edge AI Matters for Ambarella
The company's strategy relies on the belief that edge AI adoption will be widespread and decentralized. By focusing on low-power, high-efficiency hardware, Ambarella aims to position itself as a supplier for industries including industrial automation, security cameras, and autonomous robotics. These sectors require real-time processing without the latency or power demands of cloud-based data centers.
This approach differs from the industry trend of focusing on high-power data center GPUs. While larger competitors target centralized training and inference, Ambarella's focus on the 2-5 watt segment targets a specialized niche in the hardware market.
