Revvity, Inc. (NYSE:RVTY) has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire France-based biotechnology firm Human Cell Design, expanding its Life Sciences portfolio with specialized cellular models for diabetes, obesity, and metabolic disease research, according to an Investing.com report.
The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, pending customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals, with financial terms of the deal left undisclosed by both parties.
"HCD brings differentiated human cell models that complement Revvity’s broad portfolio of technologies supporting drug discovery and development," said Prahlad Singh, president and CEO of Revvity, in a statement regarding the agreement.
Technology and Product Portfolio Details
Human Cell Design specializes in developing advanced human pancreatic beta cell models, notably including the EndoC-βH5 model. Alongside its cellular offerings, the French biotech firm provides specialized media, reagents, and its proprietary NatLine cell-line development platform.
"HCD’s human cell models and NatLine technology [will be brought] to a broader global customer base," said Guillaume Costecalde, founder and president of Human Cell Design.
The integration of Human Cell Design's platforms is intended to strengthen Revvity's existing assay development and screening capabilities. Metabolic researchers utilize these specialized human cellular models to study insulin secretion mechanisms and test candidate therapeutics under physiological conditions that closely mimic human pancreatic tissue.
Scale and Operational Context
For Revvity, the acquisition represents a targeted expansion within its broader life sciences division. The S&P 500 company reported full-year 2025 revenue of $2.9 billion and maintains a global workforce of approximately 11,000 employees.
What the Acquisition Means for Metabolic Research
The incorporation of specialized human cell lines addresses a long-standing translational gap in preclinical drug discovery, where traditional animal models often fail to replicate human metabolic responses accurately. By combining Human Cell Design's cellular platforms with Revvity's global distribution and instrumentation infrastructure, the combined organization aims to accelerate drug screening pipelines targeting widespread metabolic conditions.
Why this matters: As pharmaceutical companies face mounting pressure to improve clinical trial success rates for metabolic treatments, access to reliable human-derived cellular models has become a primary operational focus across the life sciences sector.
