Recruit Holdings is overhauling its Indeed job platform from pay-per-click advertising to AI-driven hiring solutions, helping fuel a 35% jump in U.S. average revenue per job despite a 4% decline in listings, according to an Investing.com transcript of the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference.
"We are selling basically hires. We are selling hires. That is the very important part," said Hisayuki Dekoba, Chief Executive Officer, Recruit Holdings, during the conference presentation.
The Transition From Pay-Per-Click to Value-Based Hiring
The shift at Indeed has been underway for approximately 18 months, moving away from traditional advertising models toward value-based solutions. Alongside the restructuring, free ads in the United States have been substantially reduced, while Premium Sponsored Jobs have launched in Canada and the U.S. alongside ongoing tests in the Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) region.
This pricing evolution ties employer costs directly to successful hires rather than clicks or impressions. The strategy has increased monetization efficiency, demonstrated by the 35% rise in U.S. average revenue per job (ARPJ) even as overall job posting volume dipped 4% in the same period.
How AI Is Reshaping Internal Operations and Job Roles
Beyond external pricing changes, Recruit Holdings is integrating multiple large language models for different internal operational tasks. According to the transcript, the company utilizes models including Anthropic's Claude, Google's Gemini, OpenAI's ChatGPT, and Salesforce-integrated Claude, with Gemini deployed specifically for automated PDF extraction.
Addressing broader labor market concerns regarding automation, executive leadership pushed back against displacement narratives.
"AI is not a job killer. It's more like a job redesigner," said Hisayuki Dekoba, Chief Executive Officer, Recruit Holdings.
Dekoba noted that artificial intelligence adoption is creating entirely new occupational categories within corporate environments. Emerging roles identified by the company include positions specializing in AI ethics, conversation design, and prompt engineering.
What This Means for Digital Recruitment Platforms
The strategic pivot by Recruit Holdings highlights a broader industry transition among legacy digital classifieds and recruitment networks. As macroeconomic pressures fluctuate and employers demand measurable returns on recruiting expenditures, major platforms are replacing impression-based revenue streams with transaction-oriented pricing models backed by generative AI architecture.
