RBC Capital initiated coverage of Onto Innovation Inc. (NYSE:ONTO) with an Outperform rating and a $400.00 price target, pointing to expected growth in wafer fabrication equipment and the ongoing ramp of the Dragonfly G5 platform.
Wafer fabrication equipment, commonly known as WFE, represents the machinery used by semiconductor manufacturers to build microchips. RBC Capital's newly established rating highlights demand drivers across advanced packaging and inspection technologies as chipmakers scale up production to meet artificial intelligence and high-performance computing workloads.
"RBC Capital initiated coverage on Onto Innovation Inc. with an Outperform rating and a price target of $400.00," according to an Investing.com report.
Financial Performance and Earnings Beats
The initiation follows a financial period for the semiconductor equipment provider. In its reported Q2 2026 earnings, Onto Innovation posted earnings of $1.93 per share on revenue of $343.1 million.
That performance surpassed consensus analyst estimates, which had projected earnings of $1.69 per share and revenue of $325.25 million. The earnings beat highlights operational momentum as customers adopt advanced process control systems.
Wall Street Coverage and Price Targets
RBC Capital joins other major financial institutions in maintaining a positive outlook on the stock. Goldman Sachs previously initiated coverage on Onto Innovation with a Buy rating and a $400 price target.
At the same time, Morgan Stanley adjusted its price target on Onto Innovation to $360.00 from $383.00 while maintaining an Overweight rating, reflecting varied methodologies across Wall Street desks regarding valuation multiples for semiconductor capital equipment providers.
What Drives WFE Demand
Advanced semiconductor manufacturing relies on inspection and metrology tools to maintain yields as chip designs grow increasingly complex. Tools like the Dragonfly G5 inspect wafers at microscopic levels to detect defects before costly packaging steps.
As semiconductor foundries invest in gate-all-around architectures and heterogeneous chiplet integration, demand for specialized metrology equipment remains a focal point for institutional investors tracking capital expenditures in the hardware supply chain.
