A federal jury found that Arm Holdings breached its licensing agreement with Qualcomm and interfered with its Meta relationship, awarding Qualcomm nominal damages of $2 while setting up a high-stakes bench trial over a potential five-year royalty suspension.

The verdict from the Delaware federal court delivers a symbolic victory to Qualcomm, though the financial stakes hinge on upcoming judicial decisions rather than the jury's $2 award. The legal dispute centers on core intellectual property rights underpinning mobile and computing processors.

"We are gratified that the jury found Arm breached its long-standing Architectural License Agreement (ALA) with Qualcomm, failed to honor its commitments, and intentionally acted to disrupt Qualcomm’s businesses," Qualcomm said in a statement.

Arm Emphasizes Good Faith and Nominal Damages

While the jury sided with Qualcomm on the breach of contract and business interference claims, the $1 per claim award fell far short of the financial restitution Qualcomm initially sought. Representatives for Arm Holdings highlighted the nominal sum as validation of their legal defense.

"Despite Qualcomm’s pursuit of this case in an attempt to deprive Arm of billions of dollars under our license agreements, the jury’s verdict confirms that Arm operated in good faith under its technology license agreement and its award of only two dollars confirms the merit of Arm’s arguments in the case," Arm stated in an announcement.

Market Response and Trading Data

In the public markets, Qualcomm Inc (QCOM) shares traded at $177.70, up 3.25% from its previous close of $172.11, as of 2026-10-19T13:40:32.000Z, according to Finnhub market data. The modest stock movement reflects investor focus on the upcoming judicial phase rather than the negligible damages awarded by the jury.

What Is at Stake in the Bench Trial

The core financial battle now shifts to a bench trial before US District Judge Maryellen Noreika, with closing arguments scheduled for October 20, 2026, according to a TechTimes report. Judge Noreika will determine whether a disputed contract clause allowing Qualcomm to suspend its royalty payments to Arm for five years is enforceable.

A ruling in favor of Qualcomm on the royalty-suspension mechanism could impact billions of dollars in technology licensing fees. The outcome of the bench trial will dictate the long-term financial relationship between two of the semiconductor industry's most influential architecture providers.
