Progress Software reported third-quarter 2026 non-GAAP earnings per share of $1.69. This result exceeded the company's guidance range of $1.53 to $1.59, even as the firm integrates its $400 million acquisition of Domo. The deal closed on September 22, 2026, and represents a strategic pivot for the firm toward consumption-based AI data analytics.
"What makes the Domo business particularly exciting is its ability to connect data across the enterprise, apply AI to that data, and deliver trusted insights and actions directly into business workflows," said Yogesh Gupta, CEO of Progress Software, in a statement regarding the acquisition.
Strategic Rationale and Financial Impact
Progress Software funded the acquisition through a $390 million draw on a revolving credit facility. By bringing Domo into its portfolio, the company intends to embed data visualization and AI-driven analytics into its existing software development and infrastructure products.
The integration process is expected to exert pressure on profitability in the near term. Management projects that non-GAAP operating margins will compress from the current 38 to 39% range to 36 to 37% in fiscal 2027. Executives stated this shift is a matter of timing rather than economics, suggesting the margin dip is a temporary byproduct of merging the two organizations' operational infrastructures.
Investor Outlook and Market Position
The market has shown caution regarding the integration risks associated with the deal. As of October 6, 2026, shares of Progress Software (PRGS) were trading at $37.68.
Investors and analysts are focused on how effectively Progress can transition its customer base to the consumption-based model offered by the Domo platform. The company's ability to maintain its margin profile while scaling these AI-integrated services will be a key metric for evaluating the success of the acquisition in the coming fiscal year.
