Progress Software reported adjusted earnings per share of $1.69 for the third quarter of 2026, exceeding analyst expectations of $1.52 by 11.2%. Despite the earnings beat, the company’s shares fell in after-hours trading following a slight revenue miss and investor scrutiny regarding the integration of its newly acquired Domo platform.
Revenue for the quarter totaled $246.0 million, falling just short of the $246.7 million forecast. The company attributed its earnings performance to operational efficiency, which saw operating margins rise to 43%, a 300 basis point improvement over the year-ago quarter. Operating expenses were reduced by 6% to $141 million during the same period.
"Context grounds AI in trusted data, institutional knowledge, and business policies to produce reliable and dependable outcomes," said Yogesh Gupta, Chief Executive, Progress Software, in a statement regarding the company's strategic direction.
Strategic Impact of the Domo Acquisition
The financial results follow the company's completion of a $400 million acquisition of Domo. While the deal is expected to contribute only two months of activity in the fourth quarter of 2026, management anticipates the asset will stabilize at an annual run rate of $280 million to $290 million in steady-state revenue.
Operational Efficiency and Market Reaction
The market's reaction to the earnings report reflects a tension between Progress Software’s bottom-line discipline and its top-line growth trajectory. The 300 basis point expansion in operating margins demonstrates cost-containment measures, yet the missed revenue target has drawn focus to the company's ability to scale following its recent acquisition.
For investors, the integration of Domo remains a critical variable. The company is currently navigating the transition phase of the acquisition, aiming to leverage the platform's data capabilities to support its existing software suite. The shift in share price after hours suggests that the market is prioritizing revenue consistency and the successful onboarding of newly acquired assets as the company enters the final quarter of the fiscal year.
