Pirelli shares declined 1.5% following a pre-call update on Thursday, as ongoing volume pressures in the standard segment and weaker original equipment production weighed on third-quarter performance, according to an Investing.com report.

Despite the volume headwinds, management's full-year expectations for the tire manufacturer remain intact, supported by strong pricing power and demand for high-value products.

Price and Mix Performance Offset Volume Declines

The negative volume trend during the third quarter of 2026 was more than offset by price and mix performance, which increased 4% over the period. This pricing strength helped stabilize revenue as the company navigated softer demand in specific product categories and regional markets.

Volume pressures during the quarter reflected ongoing reductions in the standard segment alongside weak global original equipment manufacturing (OEM) production, particularly in China.

High-Value Tires and New Energy Vehicles

While standard volumes faced headwinds, Pirelli's High Value tires continued to demonstrate strong performance. This resilience was driven by solid premium replacement demand, winter tire sales, and growing exposure to new energy vehicles (NEVs).

What Is at Stake for Global Tire Manufacturers

The pressure on standard tire volumes highlights ongoing demand shifts across the automotive sector as manufacturers contend with uneven regional production recovery, notably in Chinese automotive markets. For premium producers like Pirelli, maintaining margin stability increasingly depends on balancing lower standard volumes against high-value replacement demand and favorable pricing strategies.
