Pinterest has appointed former Amazon executive James Dibbo as its new Chief Financial Officer, effective October 26, 2026. Dibbo succeeds outgoing CFO Julia Brau Donnelly, who will remain with the company in an advisory capacity through October 30 to assist the transition.

Dibbo joins Pinterest after a long tenure at Amazon, where he most recently served as Vice President and CFO for Global Entertainment, Advertising, and Corporate Development. In that role, he managed financial operations for business units including Amazon Ads, Prime Video, and Twitch.

"James is an exceptional finance leader with the operating rigor, strategic range and growth mindset that will greatly benefit Pinterest in our next chapter," said Bill Ready, Chief Executive Officer of Pinterest, in a statement.

Strategic Focus on Advertising and Shopping

Pinterest’s selection of an executive with experience in digital advertising and platform-based commerce signals a push to monetize its visual search engine. By hiring a leader who oversaw finance for Amazon’s advertising and streaming divisions, the company intends to integrate its shopping features with its core user experience.

"I have long admired Pinterest’s distinctive role at the intersection of visual search, shopping and advertising," said James Dibbo, incoming CFO of Pinterest.

Market Response and Financial Context

The announcement influenced public markets. Shares of Pinterest (PINS) were trading at $21.40, up 4.24% as of October 9, 2026.

The transition occurs as the company seeks to scale its revenue streams beyond traditional display ads. This move aligns with industry trends where social and discovery platforms prioritize direct-purchase capabilities to compete with e-commerce companies.
