Northern Trust has raised its 2024 financial guidance for net interest and fee income growth to a range of 9% to 10%. This is an increase from the mid-single-digit growth forecast provided in July. The revision reflects the firm's execution of its One Northern Trust strategic initiative and a focus on its high-margin wealth management division.
"When you are not competing against 10 firms, but you are competing against two or one or in some instances, zero, I just think that is really powerful," said Jason Tyler, President of Wealth Management at Northern Trust, during the Barclays conference.
Scaling the Family Office Solutions Model
A driver of this performance is the firm's Family Office Solutions (FOS) model. The business is operating at a 38% pre-tax margin. This figure highlights the profitability of the firm's approach to servicing ultra-high-net-worth clients.
"FOS is all about taking that breadth of services and being able to allocate it to clients. It's effectively an outsourced family office. It's a multifamily office. That's the way you should think about it," Tyler added.
Strategic Context and Market Position
The One Northern Trust initiative represents a shift toward consolidating service offerings to provide financial tools to wealthy families. By positioning itself as an outsourced partner instead of a traditional brokerage, the firm aims to reduce competitive friction and increase client retention.
As of September 16, 2026, Northern Trust Corp (NTRS) stock was trading at $179.03 per share. The company's ability to maintain margins while expanding its fee-based income streams is a focal point for market observers assessing the firm's growth trajectory in the wealth management sector.
