Morgan Stanley reaffirmed its Overweight rating and $1,200 price target on Micron Technology, pointing to extended customer supply agreements and consistent earnings beats across recent quarters, according to an Investing.com report. The reaffirmation arrives as memory manufacturers navigate surging artificial intelligence workloads and long-term demand for high-bandwidth memory.

Earnings Performance and EPS Beats

Over the last three quarters, Micron beat and guided ahead of consensus on earnings per share by 20% to 40%. The most recent financial period continued this upward trend, delivering a 5% earnings beat alongside revenue guidance running 6% above consensus estimates.

These results reflect tightening supply conditions across the semiconductor industry. As data center operators scale artificial intelligence infrastructure, component procurement cycles have shifted from short-term spot purchases to multi-year commitments.

Supply Chain Extensions Beyond 2030

Micron has signed 10 new supply chain agreement customers, with several contracts extending duration beyond 2030. According to Morgan Stanley, these extended timelines reflect acute customer concern regarding DRAM availability and the security of supply chains five years into the future.

"Micron signed 10 new supply chain agreement customers and is adding duration beyond 2030 in some cases," noted analysts in the report, highlighting customer anxiety over securing sufficient DRAM supply.

Cloud Memory Margins and Segment Economics

Micron's cloud memory business unit accounts for one-third of total revenue. Despite generating substantial sales volume, this segment carries the lowest gross margin among reported divisions at 83%.

Analysts attributed this margin profile to high-bandwidth memory contracts signed when overall DRAM pricing sat at lower levels. As older contracts roll off and price adjustments take effect across the industry, segment profitability will face close monitoring from equity researchers.

Bit Shipment Projections and Capital Expenditure

Looking toward future production capacity, Morgan Stanley expects industry-level bit shipment growth to accelerate next year. Projections place 2027 year-over-year growth at 20%, a notable increase from the 11% growth rate estimated for this year.

This projected acceleration differs from Micron's own internal projections, which suggest the company's bit growth will moderate despite rising capital expenditures directed at fabrication facility expansion and technological upgrades.

Market Context for Morgan Stanley

Amid these sector-wide developments, Morgan Stanley (NYSE: MS) shares traded at $191.02, representing a 0.44% increase from its previous close of $190.19, according to Finnhub market data as of October 6, 2026. The financial institution's continued stance on Micron highlights how institutional analysts evaluate multi-year enterprise hardware commitments against near-term margin constraints in advanced memory manufacturing.
