Microsoft has raised its quarterly dividend by 8% to $0.98 per share, returning cash to shareholders while continuing heavy capital expenditures on artificial intelligence infrastructure. The increase brings the annualized payout to $3.92 per share, up from the previous $0.91 quarterly rate.
"We think management views dividends as a permanent commitment, leaving room for continued share repurchases while balancing elevated AI infrastructure investments," wrote Morgan Stanley analyst Adam Wood in a note to clients, according to a TipRanks report.
Payout Schedule and Key Dates
The upgraded dividend is payable on December 10, 2026, to shareholders of record as of November 19, 2026, which also marks the ex-dividend date, according to Microsoft's official announcement. Alongside the financial return schedule, the company set its 2026 Annual Shareholders Meeting for December 8, 2026. The virtual meeting will be hosted by CEO Satya Nadella, CFO Amy Hood, President Brad Smith, and lead independent director Sandra E. Peterson, with a voting record date of September 30, 2026.
In the public markets, Microsoft (MSFT) stock traded at $493.78, down 0.80% from its previous close of $497.75, according to Finnhub market data.
Balancing AI Capital Expenditures
The payout increase arrives as the tech giant sustains historic spending levels to build out its cloud and AI capabilities. Microsoft's capital expenditures reached $41 billion in the fiscal fourth quarter, culminating in a total of $145 billion for the full fiscal year, driven largely by infrastructure demands for artificial intelligence.
What Is at Stake for Shareholders
The dividend hike highlights management's strategy to maintain traditional shareholder returns through dividends and share repurchases even as data center investments reach unprecedented levels. By formalizing the 7-cent per share increase, Microsoft signals cash flow stability against a backdrop of multi-billion-dollar AI deployment cycles.
