Altera has confidentially filed a draft Form S-1 registration statement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for an initial public offering that could raise more than $2 billion, according to a Yahoo Finance report.

Parent company Intel Corporation carved out the programmable chip unit one year ago, selling a 51% controlling stake to private equity firm Silver Lake in a transaction that valued Altera at $8.75 billion while Intel retained a 49% minority holding.

Underwriting and Market Comparisons

Should the offering reach the $2 billion threshold cited in Reuters reporting, it would rank as the largest semiconductor initial public offering since Arm Holdings collected $5 billion in its 2023 debut.

To manage the transaction, the company's new owners have retained Barclays, Citigroup, JPMorgan Chase, and Morgan Stanley to serve as lead underwriters for the upcoming public listing.

Intel Market Performance

Alongside the filing news, parent company Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) traded at $108.80, up 7.7% from its previous close of $101.05, according to Finnhub market data.

The confidential filing allows Altera to test investor appetite and review its financial disclosures with regulators away from the public eye before launching a formal roadshow.
