Guggenheim initiated coverage on defense contractor Leonardo DRS Inc. (NASDAQ: DRS) with a buy rating and a $51.00 price target, highlighting the firm's balance between legacy defense programs and modern technology exposure.
The investment bank's research note points to a mix of traditional hardware manufacturing and recent software acquisitions as key drivers for long-term growth in a changing defense procurement environment.
"Guggenheim initiated coverage on Leonardo DRS Inc. with a buy rating and a price target of $51.00," according to market analysts following the firm's recent research note.
The Raft Acquisition and Software Integration
A central element of Guggenheim's investment thesis is Leonardo DRS's recent acquisition of Raft, LLC. The purchase integrates advanced software capabilities with the defense contractor's existing hardware portfolio to augment military offerings.
According to the analysis, this combination supports the development and deployment of critical defense systems, including tactical radars and counter-UAS technology. Integrating software-defined capabilities into hardware platforms allows the company to address modern electronic warfare and drone defense demands.
Second-Quarter Earnings Performance
The analyst coverage follows a financial report from Leonardo DRS earlier in the fiscal year. In its second-quarter earnings release, the company reported that adjusted earnings increased by 52% year-over-year to $0.35 per share.
Alongside the bottom-line growth, revenue expanded by 10% compared to the same period in the prior year, reaching $913 million. This top-line increase reflects demand across the contractor's primary defense programs and supply chain stabilization.
Insider Transactions and Trading Plans
Alongside the analyst sentiment, recent insider trading activity has also drawn market attention. Chief Financial Officer Michael Dippold sold 20,317 shares of Leonardo DRS stock on September 2nd, according to a Daily Political report.
The shares were executed at an average price of $37.18. The transaction was carried out under a pre-arranged Rule 10b5-1 trading plan, which allows corporate insiders to set predetermined stock sales in compliance with insider trading regulations.
