Goldman Sachs has lowered its price target for PepsiCo (NASDAQ: PEP) from $180 to $165. The firm cited persistent margin pressures and operational execution challenges, even though the company beat third-quarter earnings expectations.

Goldman Sachs maintained a Buy rating on the stock. Analysts at the firm noted a cautious outlook for the snack and beverage company as it manages rising costs and changing consumer demand. This revision follows recent downward adjustments to the company's own financial guidance.

"Margin performance is below where we expected it to be. Input costs are trending higher and mix has been a headwind in particular," said Stephen Schmitt, Chief Financial Officer, PepsiCo, in a statement regarding the results.

Revised Growth Outlook

PepsiCo adjusted its fiscal 2026 financial targets to reflect these operational headwinds. The company now expects organic sales growth of approximately 3%, which narrows its previous guidance range of 2% to 4%. The firm also reduced its constant-currency earnings per share growth outlook to a range of 1% to 2%, compared to the 4% to 6% growth previously forecast.

Addressing Beverage Underperformance

Management is focusing on the soft drink segment, where performance has lagged behind categories such as hydration and energy drinks. The company is reallocating resources to address these competitive gaps.

"Now we don't feel good about the beverage business. I think in the beverage business, as we put in our remarks, we're competing well in some platforms like hydration, like energy. We're not competing well in soft drinks. So we're putting all the urgency of the business and the focus in improving our performance in soft drinks," said Ramon Laguarta, Chief Executive Officer, PepsiCo.

What Is at Stake for Investors

The price target adjustment from a Goldman Sachs report highlights the tension between the company's brand portfolio and the current macroeconomic environment. Shareholders are now watching whether PepsiCo can manage elevated input costs and regain market share in the soft drink category without further eroding margins or sacrificing volume growth.
