Bank of America has initiated coverage of Penguin Solutions (NASDAQ: PENG) with a Buy rating and a $100 price target. The firm projects the company will benefit from the shift toward complex, action-oriented artificial intelligence infrastructure.
The firm's valuation is based on approximately 18 times its calendar 2028 earnings per share estimate of $5.43, according to an Investing.com report. The initiation highlights Penguin's role in deploying large-scale hardware clusters required to support the next phase of AI development.
"In the age of agentic AI, we see the company as a key beneficiary with the domain expertise of installing and managing the performance of large AI clusters of [graphics processing units (GPUs)] and [central processing units]," said Wamsi Mohan, analyst at Bank of America.
The Rise of Agentic AI
Early generative AI models focused on answering prompts or generating text. The industry is now moving toward agentic AI. These systems are designed to go beyond simple responses by autonomously taking actions and completing multi-step tasks to achieve specific goals.
Supporting these autonomous agents requires higher computational density than standard large language models. Penguin Solutions focuses on the infrastructure layer, providing the hardware integration and management services necessary to keep these high-performance clusters operational.
Financial Performance and Market Position
Penguin Solutions has pivoted its business model to align with this demand. Currently, AI-driven operations account for 78% of the company's total sales. This segment recorded a 141% year-over-year growth rate in the most recent quarter.
For investors, the BofA initiation underscores the transition from general AI adoption to the deployment of specialized, mission-critical infrastructure. As enterprises shift from testing AI to integrating it into automated workflows, the demand for firms capable of managing the underlying hardware complexity remains a focus for market analysts.
