Generac Holdings Inc. shares rose 18% after the company announced an $8 billion long-term agreement to supply backup power generators to Amazon data centers. The deal includes an equity warrant component for Amazon and supports the company's plan to expand its manufacturing of large-format units.
"This is a massive win for Generac and provides clarity regarding the demand underpinning management's recently announced plan to triple manufacturing capacity for large-format generators by August 2027," said analysts at William Blair in a recent note.
Deal Structure and Delivery Timeline
Under the terms of the agreement, Generac will provide specialized power generation equipment to support Amazon infrastructure. According to a Yahoo Finance report, the total contract value is estimated at $8 billion. Initial deliveries are projected to contribute $2.4 billion in revenue across 2027 and 2028.
As part of the arrangement, Generac issued warrants to an Amazon subsidiary allowing the tech giant to acquire up to 1,693,745 shares of Generac common stock. The warrants carry an exercise price of $200.93 per share. A portion of these warrants, totaling 307,954 shares, vested immediately. The remainder are structured to vest in tranches tied to aggregate gross payments made by Amazon under the supply agreement.
Manufacturing and Market Impact
The deal validates the strategic pivot Generac has made toward the data center market. By securing a long-term commitment of this scale, the company gains the visibility required to justify its capital-intensive expansion plans. As of September 18, 2026, Generac (GNRC) stock closed at $207.44.
For investors, the agreement highlights the connection between the AI-driven data center boom and industrial power infrastructure. Data centers require high-availability backup systems to ensure continuous operation. This necessity has placed increased demand on manufacturers capable of producing large-format generators at scale. The vesting structure of the warrants also aligns Amazon's long-term interests with the successful execution of Generac's production capacity targets.
