Fujitsu will begin accepting orders for its domestically produced FUJITSU-MONAKA CPU and associated AI servers in November 2026. This move aims to support sovereign AI infrastructure in Japan and Europe. The hardware, designed for high-performance computing and power efficiency, should begin contributing to company earnings in the fiscal year ending March 2028.

"The FUJITSU-MONAKA CPU represents a shift toward localized, high-efficiency computing power designed to meet the rigorous security and performance demands of modern AI inference," according to an industry report.

Technical Architecture and Manufacturing

The MONAKA processor utilizes a 3D-stacked architecture. It combines a 2nm process for the core logic with a 5nm process for cache and I/O components. This design choice maximizes throughput while minimizing energy consumption.

To ensure supply chain reliability and transparency, the server hardware is manufactured at Fujitsu's Kasashima plant in Ishikawa Prefecture. By keeping production domestic, the company offers clients greater traceability, which is a critical factor for organizations managing sensitive data in regulated industries.

Market Deployment and Scope

Fujitsu has initiated pilot programs for the technology, currently supplying the MONAKA server to 30 companies across the finance, telecommunications, and manufacturing sectors in Japan and Europe. These early deployments serve as a testing ground for the hardware’s real-world efficacy in AI inference workloads.

Following the order window opening in November 2026, the company has scheduled specific delivery timelines for the new hardware:

  • CPU Shipments: Expected to begin between January and March 2027.
  • Server Shipments: Full system availability is scheduled to commence in April 2027.

Strategic Importance of Sovereign AI

The push for sovereign AI, defined as the concept of nations or organizations maintaining control over their own AI infrastructure, data, and compute resources, is a focus for major technology firms. By developing a domestic CPU and server line, Fujitsu is positioning itself to capture demand from enterprises seeking alternatives to reliance on a single, globalized hardware supply chain. The company’s focus on the Japanese and European markets reflects a regional emphasis on data privacy and digital autonomy.
