FTAI Aviation has expanded its multi-year engine exchange partnership with United Airlines to include CFM56-7B engines, replacing traditional shop visits with direct serviceable engine swaps for United's Boeing 737 Next Generation fleet. The arrangement allows the airline to maintain flight schedules by avoiding extended maintenance turnaround times.

"United is one of the most respected operators in our industry, and its decision to adopt FTAI’s engine exchange program is a meaningful endorsement," said Joe Adams, Chairman and CEO of FTAI, in a statement regarding the agreement.

How the CFM56-7B Exchange Program Works

Under the Maintenance, Repair and Exchange agreement announced by FTAI Aviation Ltd., FTAI delivers serviceable powerplants ahead of scheduled removals and purchases unserviceable engines in exchange. This model shifts the burden of managing individual overhauls away from the airline, utilizing exchange pools to streamline shop visits for high-cycle narrowbody airframes.

The partnership builds upon an existing framework that initially covered United’s V2500-powered fleet used on select Airbus aircraft. The expansion into designated CFM56-7B engines targets the backbone of the domestic narrowbody market, where high utilization rates make rapid engine replacement critical for fleet management.

Scaling Fleet Maintenance Through 2026

The program began with an initial group of engines in 2026 and is structured to scale over its multi-year term as additional powerplants reach removal thresholds. Maintenance efficiency remains a primary operational focus for commercial carriers managing supply chain pressures and specialized technician shortages across global maintenance facilities.

"This agreement represents an important step forward in our maintenance program for our Boeing 737 NG aircraft," said Mike Leskinen, United’s Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.

Market Valuation and Share Price Context

Following the announcement, FTAI shares closed at $166.87, representing a 0.81% increase from a previous close of $165.53, according to Finnhub market data. The valuation reflects investor interest in the firm's asset-light engine leasing and maintenance exchange model within the broader aerospace sector.
