Fitch Ratings revised LKQ Corporation's outlook to stable from positive while affirming its 'BBB-' long-term issuer default rating, citing a delayed deleveraging trajectory driven by persistently low collision claim volumes and active shareholder returns, according to a Yahoo Finance report.

The rating agency pointed to a slower path toward debt reduction as the primary driver for the outlook revision. LKQ continues to prioritize shareholder distributions alongside its capital expenditures, which directly impacts how quickly the auto parts distributor can pay down existing liabilities.

Revenue Declines and Margin Compression

Operational headwinds have weighed heavily on financial performance over consecutive periods. Organic parts and services revenue fell 3.4% in the first half of 2026, following a 2.7% decline throughout full-year 2025.

This top-line contraction stems directly from persistently lower repairable collision claim volumes across key operating markets. As fewer vehicles require collision repairs, demand for replacement parts slows.

Consequently, profitability has deteriorated alongside revenue. Fitch-calculated EBITDA margins compressed to 10.7% for the six-month period ended June 30, 2026, dropping down from 12.1% in full-year 2024.

How Capital Allocation Slows Deleveraging

Corporate balance sheet metrics reflect these operational pressures. LKQ's leverage rose to 3.0x in the second quarter of 2026, up from roughly 2.6x at year-end 2024.

Fitch anticipates that leverage will gradually decline to around 2.8x by year-end 2026, and reach 2.5x by 2028. However, this projected pace trails management's internal leverage target of 2.0x.

The slower debt reduction is largely structural to LKQ's capital allocation strategy. Management directs approximately half of the company's operating cash flow after capital expenditures toward dividends and share buybacks, leaving fewer internal funds available for rapid debt retirement.

Operational Disruptions and Regional Performance

Beyond broader market trends in collision claims, company-specific execution hurdles have added pressure. Temporary operational disruptions stemming from an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system implementation in Germany impacted recent quarterly performance.

Amid these headwinds, regional segments have performed unevenly. LKQ's North American segment, which accounts for roughly 40% of overall revenue, generated 0.5% organic growth in parts and services during the second quarter. That performance managed to outperform a broader market decline of 1% to 3% in repairable claims for the region.

What Stable Outlook Means for LKQ

For investors and creditors watching NASDAQ:LKQ, the stable outlook signals that Fitch views the company's 'BBB-' investment-grade status as secure for the near term, though it sees limited catalysts for an upgrade until claim volumes recover and leverage moves closer to management targets.
