Building materials giant CRH is expanding its footprint in Northern Europe by agreeing to purchase NCC Industry's operations in Denmark and Finland in a transaction valued at roughly €240 million. The agreement represents half of a broader carve-out of NCC AB's industrial division, with rival firm Heidelberg Materials acquiring the remaining assets in Sweden and Norway.

"This acquisition is strongly aligned with CRH’s strategy to build an aggregates-led, connected portfolio aligned with growing infrastructure megatrends. NCC Industry’s extensive operating footprint and strong customer relationships in Denmark and Finland will strengthen our business in the Nordics, enhancing our ability to support customers across key high-growth urban markets and infrastructure end-segments," said Peter Buckley, President, CRH International.

Asset Breakdown Across Denmark and Finland

Under the terms of the transaction, the acquired operations encompass critical heavy construction infrastructure tailored to each national market. In Denmark, the deal secures a nationwide network of asphalt production plants alongside land and marine-based aggregates sites and underlying material reserves. In Finland, the acquired portfolio focuses primarily on hard-rock quarries, backfilling operations, and commercial recycling facilities.

These physical assets provide foundational inputs for regional road construction, commercial development, and civil engineering projects. By integrating these quarries and asphalt networks, CRH gains immediate vertical integration across two stable Nordic economies.

Regulatory Timeline and Market Splitting

The transaction remains contingent on receiving applicable regulatory approvals and fulfilling customary closing conditions. Management anticipates that the deal will reach final completion during 2027. Until that formal closing occurs, NCC Industry's operations in both countries will continue to function independently under their current management structures.

The simultaneous division of NCC Industry highlights a consolidation trend among major European building-materials producers. While CRH takes control of the Danish and Finnish operations, Heidelberg Materials' parallel acquisition of the Swedish and Norwegian assets splits the divested NCC portfolio cleanly down geographic lines across the Scandinavian and Baltic periphery.
