Coda Octopus reported Q3 2026 revenue of $7.72 million, exceeding the $7.35 million analyst consensus. A rise in defense engineering services offset a decline in marine technology sales.
The company's performance reflects a focus on defense contracts, which saw revenue rise 68.3% during the quarter. This growth countered geopolitical issues that hampered the marine technology segment, which experienced a 15.2% sales decline due to instability in the Middle East and Asia.
"Despite a challenging geopolitical environment that affected customer activity in certain international markets, we delivered growth in both revenue and pre-tax income while maintaining our strong balance sheet and debt-free position," said Annmarie Gayle, Chair and Chief Executive of Coda Octopus, in a statement.
Strategic Shift Toward Defense Adoption
While the company continues to supply its specialized marine hardware, management is focusing on expanding its participation in government defense programs to stabilize long-term revenue. This shift aims to move the business beyond the limitations of individual unit sales.
"There is a finite number of units we can sell quarter and quarter into that market. Therefore, our strategy is to increase the number of defense programs that is adopting our technology," Gayle noted during the earnings call.
Regulatory Milestone for DAVD System
A development in this defense-focused strategy is the recent U.S. Navy approval for the company's Diver Augmented Vision Display (DAVD) underwater system. This certification is expected to facilitate integration of the technology into naval operations.
"It removes the most important hurdle of getting the technology, first of all, in the customer's hands," Gayle said regarding the approval.
Financial Performance and Market Position
The company's earnings per share (EPS) of $0.12 met analyst expectations. Coda Octopus maintains a debt-free balance sheet, which the company highlighted as a component of its ability to navigate international market volatility. The company's ability to maintain these margins while shifting its operational focus remains a point of interest for stakeholders monitoring the transition from commercial marine technology to defense-heavy contracting.
