Century Therapeutics reported nonclinical data for its type 1 diabetes candidate, CNTY-813, at the 62nd Annual Meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes. The company is developing this induced pluripotent stem cell-derived islet replacement therapy and is targeting an Investigational New Drug (IND) submission in late 2026.

"Grant Welstead, Senior Vice President and Head of Research at Century, delivered the presentation on Friday," the company stated in a release regarding the conference appearance.

Clinical Development Timeline

The presentation of nonclinical findings is part of the company's development strategy for the islet replacement program. Following the planned IND filing in the fourth quarter of 2026, the company anticipates the collection of initial clinical data during the second half of 2027.

CNTY-813 is designed to replace lost insulin-producing cells in patients with type 1 diabetes. By utilizing induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), the company aims to create a source of islet cells that can regulate blood glucose levels without relying on traditional donor-derived islet transplants.

Financial Context

Century Therapeutics (IPSC) shares were trading at $1.24, down 3.13%, as of October 8, 2026. The company is managing the capital-intensive process of moving cell therapies from preclinical research through the regulatory requirements for human clinical trials.

Regulatory and Industry Context

Diabetes is a focus for regenerative medicine, with multiple firms exploring iPSC-derived solutions to address the scarcity of human donor islets. The regulatory path for such therapies involves safety assessments by the FDA to ensure that the transplanted cells do not form tumors or trigger adverse immune responses. By setting the IND submission for late 2026, Century Therapeutics is aligning its schedule with industry timelines for transitioning complex cell-based therapies from laboratory models into early-stage human safety studies.
