Century Therapeutics has reached alignment with the FDA on the development path for its Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) candidate, CNTY-813, following a successful pre-IND meeting. The company presented new preclinical data at the 62nd Annual Meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes, confirming its intent to file an Investigational New Drug (IND) application in the fourth quarter of 2026.

"We are executing with speed against key development milestones, reinforcing our confidence in delivering on our ambition to transform diseases like T1D by creating functional cures at scale," said Brent Pfeiffenberger, Pharm.D., CEO of Century Therapeutics, in a statement.

Regulatory and Clinical Progress

The FDA alignment covers critical components of the drug development process, including the nonclinical data package, the Phase 1 manufacturing strategy, and the design for the proposed Phase 1/2 clinical trial. By securing this consensus, the company intends to simplify its transition into human testing. According to the company's Q2 2026 financial report, this regulatory clarity is a basis of their current pipeline strategy. Following the planned IND submission later in 2026, the company expects to generate initial human safety and efficacy data by the second half of 2027.

The Mechanism of Allo-Evasion 5.0

CNTY-813 is an iPSC-derived islet replacement therapy designed to address the underlying causes of T1D. The candidate leverages the company’s proprietary Allo-Evasion 5.0 technology. This platform is engineered to protect transplanted cells from the patient’s immune system, allowing for durable engraftment without requiring the patient to undergo chronic systemic immunosuppression. Traditional islet cell transplants often necessitate long-term immunosuppressive drugs, which carry risks of infection and other complications, making the avoidance of such regimens a goal for T1D therapies.

Market Context

Century Therapeutics (IPSC) stock was trading at $1.25, down 2.34%, as of October 8, 2026. The company is currently operating within a sector for regenerative medicine and cell-based diabetes treatments. The success of the CNTY-813 program is central to the firm's efforts to scale functional cures for autoimmune conditions using induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) technology, which allows for the creation of standardized, off-the-shelf therapeutic products rather than patient-specific autologous therapies.
