Cantor Fitzgerald reaffirmed its Overweight rating on Sagimet Biosciences Inc following positive 52-week extension trial results for its acne treatment denifanstat and a recent $115 million capital raise.
The equity financing and clinical update strengthen the biopharmaceutical company's balance sheet while providing long-term safety and efficacy data for its lead metabolic pipeline candidate.
52-Week Extension Trial Results
Three-quarters of enrolled participants completed the 52-week open-label extension study of denifanstat, according to data reviewed by Cantor Fitzgerald. Among patients who finished the full trial duration, total lesion counts dropped by approximately 75%, while inflammatory lesion counts fell by roughly 80% compared to the original ASC40-303 baseline.
The safety profile remained clean throughout the extended monitoring period. Investigators observed no permanent treatment discontinuations driven by adverse events and no drug-related serious adverse events.
Side Effect Profile and Clinical Tolerability
Dermatological monitoring revealed manageable localized side effects during the year-long administration of denifanstat. Treatment-related dry skin was observed in about 7% of patients, while dry eye occurred in approximately 6% of participants.
These findings provide clinicians with extended tolerability metrics for a drug class designed to inhibit fatty acid synthase, an enzyme implicated in both acne pathogenesis and metabolic disorders.
Capital Raise and Valuation Adjustments
To fund ongoing development, Sagimet recently secured approximately $115 million in gross proceeds. The financing involved the issuance of roughly 8.75 million common shares priced at $10 each, alongside pre-funded warrants covering approximately 2.75 million shares, in an offering led by Commodore Capital and participating specialized funds.
Following the share issuance, Cantor Fitzgerald adjusted its risk-adjusted net present value for the company to approximately $25.1 per share, shifting downward from about $26.4 per share due to dilution from the expanded share count.
